Kazakstan: HIV & AIDS awareness
Since 1995 there has been an alarming increase of HIV & AIDS cases. Although in the past it was mainly confined to injecting drug users (IDU) and commercial sex workers (CSW), recent statistics show that the virus has now spread to the general population. From 2006 to 2007 the number of people living with HIV has almost doubled. It has become crucial to raise awareness and teach people how they can protect themselves and others.

Since early 2007, a team of 4 people have been visiting schools, colleges, universities, churches and even hospitals and medical schools to raise awareness of HIV & AIDS. The team has sought permission from the government to establish a “Testing and Counselling Centre” and process in underway.

The counseling team is actively involved in the lives of many families who are affected by HIV or AIDS. The team has established a good working relationship with local medical facilities and is able to refer patients for government-approved medical care.

The counseling team has especially been instrumental in encouraging patients to continue their much needed anti-retroviral treatment. The patients are appreciative of the team’s holistic care and support. As one patient comments, “The team has offered me a great amount of help and much-needed comfort and support. They are my friends.”

New AIDS clinic in India
Imagine a clinic that gives free care to over 300 patients in the surrounding villages. All this is done out of 2 rooms of total 30 m2. Now imagine what could be done with a bigger facility and better resources. The building project of the new clinic will enable our AIDSLink partners to triple the number of patients they care for.

Nepal's child sponsorship programme
In Nepal, once a family member contracts HIV, one of the first expenses to be cut is the children's school fees. 10 children from HIV affected families (either one or both parents are HIV+) need the equivalent of $17/month to continue going to school and have a chance at life.
Contact us now to enquire on how to support this project.

In Malaysia, children of poor families often struggle in school and end up leaving home to roam the city streets. These children are attracted to the possibility of earning money through odd jobs, but often end up being exploited by unscrupulous adults.
